Whitley Penn Audit Partner and Permian Basin Audit Energy Practice Leader, Evan Green, CPA, has been appointed to the National Council of Petroleum Accountants Societies (COPAS) Board of Directors.

The board of directors oversees COPAS operations to assure that policies, projects and other activities authorized by the council are executed in a proper and timely manner. The board is composed of nine members, each serving a three-year term. Three directors are elected annually at the COPAS Fall Meetings by the Council.

“Evan’s appointment to the Council of Petroleum Accountants Society is a well-deserved recognition of his experience and leadership in the energy industry,” stated Matthew Reiter, Partner-in-Charge of Audit. “This opportunity reflects Evan’s commitment to the profession, and we are confident he will make meaningful contributions to the Council. We look forward to supporting him in this role and seeing the impact of his involvement.”

Green has extensive experience in audit and assurance services with a specialized focus on energy companies, including upstream, midstream, and oilfield services organizations.

Green’s background emphasizes private equity investment structures and M&A activity, including business combinations, platform and bolt‑on acquisitions, and carve‑outs. His technical strengths include foreign currency translation, complex derivatives, consolidations and equity method investment considerations, and equity valuation. He frequently leads engagements involving intricate ownership structures and transactional accounting issues throughout the investment lifecycle.

Earlier in his career, Green broadened his global perspective through an International Secondment Program, working in London with Smith & Williamson (now Evelyn Partners). During his secondment, he gained valuable international audit experience and exposure to global accounting frameworks, which he continues to leverage in serving clients across industries.

Green is actively engaged in the Permian Basin and West Texas professional community. He is a past President of the Petroleum Accountants Society of the Permian Basin and currently serves on the board of directors of the Council of Petroleum Accountants Societies (COPAS), President-Elect of the TXCPA Permian Basin Chapter, Treasurer of the Texas Tech Rawls College of Business Recent Alumni Board and is a member of the AICPA, Young Professionals in Energy (YPE), and Young Professionals of Midland.
In 2025, Green was honored as the Graduate of the Last Decade by the Texas Tech Rawls College of Business for his professional achievements and leadership in the energy industry. He earned his B.B.A. in Accounting from Texas Tech University.
