Brian Mitchell has more than 26 years of combined professional experience in public accounting and as a tax executive in industry. Brian has significant experience in tax planning, compliance, and risk management for the U.S. taxation of cross-border transactions.
Prior to Whitley Penn, Brian held executive level roles within Private Equity roles supporting M&A Tax Due Diligence, including managing pre- and post-transaction tax, accounting, legal, treasury, and other support functions. He has worked on both private and public transactions across a variety of industry verticals, including manufacturing, distribution & logistics, wholesale, retail, real estate, Biotech, and various types of technology and software companies.
Brian has a strong understanding of tax matters impacting high growth technology and service companies and those with valuable Intellectual Property, especially those operating in jurisdictions outside of the U.S. He also has experience working with U.S. anti-deferral rules, foreign tax credits, sourcing rules, foreign currency, and other high-value cross-border M&A transactional and tax structural matters.
Brian’s experience includes Internal Revenue Service (IRS) exam defense, which includes risk mitigation of U.S. tax compliance and voluntary IRS initiatives. Brian is an Alumnus of more than one large DFW private equity firm and a Big Four accounting firm.
Brian is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), American Bar Association – Tax Section, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TXCPA), Texas Tech Accounting Advisory Council, and is a Dallas Committee on Foreign Relations Fellow. He is a frequent speaker on both international tax and private equity matters.
Brian received his BBA in Accounting and MS in Taxation from Texas Tech University.
