Houston, TX – (November 29, 2021) – Whitley Penn Audit Partner, Brian Starr, has been named the Vice President of the Sam Houston State University Alumni Association.
Members of the Alumni Association Board of Directors are elected by Directors of the Association (or under special circumstances, appointed by the Board President) to hold the position based on demonstrated involvement, interest, support, and commitment to Sam Houston State University. Each Academic College on the alumni board of directors is represented by a minimum of three alumni from each college.

I look forward to stepping into the role of Vice President of the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors to continue these efforts, hopefully growing the SHSU network, and recruiting incredible Bearkat graduates to the Firm.”
Starr has more than 18 years of audit and assurance experience with public and private companies. He is a trusted business advisor and consultant for clients in industries such as manufacturing and distribution, oilfield services, software development and sales, real estate and construction and private equity investment companies. Starr has an in-depth knowledge and familiarity with SEC reporting related to both accelerated and non-accelerated filers.
Starr is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the Texas Society and Houston Chapter of Certified Public Accountants. Brian is passionate about serving the community and does so through his position as a director for the Tellepsen Family Downtown YMCA, and his involvement with both the Houston Energy Finance Group and the Secured Finance Network.
Starr graduated magna cum laude obtaining his B.B.A. in Accounting from Sam Houston State University.
